Community rulebook

The shared rules for everyone on Dardsh — learners and coaches alike. It explains what we celebrate, what we discourage, and exactly what's rewarded or penalised. These numbers are live: the team can adjust them, and this page always shows what's currently in force.

In short

  • • Be respectful and keep sessions about language learning.
  • • Show up on time, and cancel early if your plans change.
  • • No illegal, hateful, sexual, or otherwise unsafe content — ever.
  • • Reliable, highly-rated behaviour earns Dardsh Coins.

Booking limits

To keep things healthy for learners and coaches, booking is capped:

  • Up to 4 sessions per day with the same coach.
  • Up to 8 sessions per week across all coaches.
  • Up to 2 back-to-back sessions in a row with one coach (book two together for a 1-hour session).

What we praise (and reward)

Good habits earn Dardsh Coins (DC), credited to your wallet:

  • Joining on time, session after session — up to +50 DC.
  • Consistently high ratings — up to +30 DC.
  • Completing a streak of sessions — up to +100 DC.

What we discourage (and penalise)

These behaviours hurt other people's experience and carry consequences:

  • No-shows — not turning up to a booked session.
  • Late cancellations that leave the other person stuck.
  • Steering a session into unsafe territory (see the short rules above).
  • Harassment, hate, or any unsafe or illegal conduct.

How coach penalties escalate

Offences are counted over a rolling 90-day window.

  1. Offence 1: Warning · Earnings hold extended
  2. Offence 2: Temporary booking ban · Lower search ranking
  3. Offence 3: Suspension (admin review) · Lower search ranking · Mandatory check-in

Serious or repeated safety breaches can lead to a permanent ban.

Coach Quality Index (CQI)

Every coach has a quality score from 0–100, built from ratings, attendance, reliability, connection quality and session safety. It guides coaching support and standing:

  • Below 70: a heads-up and an improvement plan.
  • Below 50: a temporary suspension pending review.
  • Below 30 (or a serious safety breach): removal from Dardsh.

Becoming a coach

New coaches complete an onboarding course and must pass its test (a score of at least 80%) before they can be booked. It covers these rules and how to run a great session.

Session statuses

Each booking moves through clear statuses — requested, confirmed, live, completed, and the various cancelled or no-show outcomes.

What happens to each wallet, by session status

Every status has a precise effect on the learner's wallet and the coach's earnings — all in Dardsh Coins (DC). A learner's earned DC is withdrawable while bonus DC is spendable only; a coach's earnings post as pending and become withdrawable after a short hold. When a request needs the coach's approval, the price is held from the learner's wallet up front and released the moment the booking is settled.

Before the session happens

  • Requested

Learner wallet: The price is held from your wallet while you wait (or, for some coaches, only charged once they approve). Nothing is spent yet: if the coach declines, doesn't respond in time, or accepts another learner for the slot, the hold is released back to you in full.

Coach wallet: Nothing yet — a request that hasn't been accepted never pays the coach.

  • Booked (confirmed)

Learner wallet: The price is committed — held from your wallet, or paid by card, a session credit, or your free trial. It stays reserved until the session is settled.

Coach wallet: Nothing yet — your earning is set aside as pending until the session is completed.

  • Ongoing (live)

Learner wallet: No change — the price stays committed while the session runs.

Coach wallet: No change — your earning stays pending until the session ends and is settled.

After the session

  • Done

Learner wallet: You're charged the full price — the held amount is released to the coach and nothing is returned.

Coach wallet: You earn your commission tier's share of the price — 75%, 80%, or 85% depending on your lifetime completed sessions — and Dardsh keeps the rest. It posts as pending and becomes withdrawable after the hold window.

  • Incomplete

Learner wallet: You're fully refunded — the session didn't run long enough to count and neither side is at fault.

Coach wallet: You earn nothing, and there's no penalty.

If it's cancelled before it starts

  • Cancelled by learner (more than 24h before)

Learner wallet: Full refund of the price back to your wallet.

Coach wallet: Nothing — no earning and no penalty.

  • Cancelled by coach (more than 24h before)

Learner wallet: Full refund of the price back to your wallet.

Coach wallet: Nothing — no earning, and no penalty for cancelling this early.

  • Hard cancelled by learner (1–24h before)

Learner wallet: Half the price is refunded; the other half goes to the coach to make up for the blocked slot.

Coach wallet: You're paid half the price as compensation for the short notice.

  • Hard cancelled by coach (1–24h before)

Learner wallet: Full refund, plus a 25% apology bonus added to your wallet as spendable bonus DC.

Coach wallet: No earning; the learner's apology bonus is funded from your pending earnings, and you receive a reliability warning.

  • Cancelled by Admin Ops

Learner wallet: Full refund of the price back to your wallet.

Coach wallet: Nothing — no earning, and no penalty for either side.

If someone doesn't show

  • Learner no-show (never joined, or cancelled within the last hour)

Learner wallet: You forfeit the price — no refund.

Coach wallet: You're paid your commission tier's share (75–85%) for holding the time.

  • Coach no-show (never joined, or cancelled within the last hour)

Learner wallet: Full refund, plus a 25% apology bonus added to your wallet as spendable bonus DC.

Coach wallet: No earning; the learner's apology bonus is funded from your pending earnings, and your reliability penalty escalates.

These are the exact wallet rules the engine enforces. The approximate local-currency figures shown elsewhere are only a guide — the wallet always settles in DC.

For learners

Everything above applies to you. These are the rules that shape your bookings, your wallet and your sessions in particular.

  • Your wallet holds Dardsh Coins (DC). Earned DC can be withdrawn; bonus DC can only be spent. 100 DC is one US dollar, and you'll also see an approximate figure in your own currency.
  • Marketplace sessions are 30 minutes; course sessions are 60. The booking limits above apply per coach and per week.
  • When a coach approves requests, the price is held from your wallet the moment you ask and comes back in full if they decline, if they haven't answered an hour before the start — or whenever you withdraw the request yourself. A request that hasn't been confirmed never carries a cancellation penalty.
  • Once a session is confirmed: cancel more than 24 hours ahead for a full refund; between 24 hours and 1 hour you get 50% back and the coach keeps the other half; inside the last hour, or after the start, cancelling counts as your no-show — no refund, and the coach is paid in full. Rescheduling closes 24 hours before the start.
  • Join from 5 minutes before the start. If you haven't joined 10 minutes after the start and your coach was there on time, the session becomes your no-show and the coach is paid. If your coach was late too, you're refunded in full and nobody is penalised.
  • Sessions are recorded only with both sides' consent, and a recording indicator stays visible the whole time it's on.
  • Report anything unsafe from inside the session or from any page. Every report is reviewed, and the fairness check can refund you or credit a bonus.

For coaches

Coaches are held to the same rules as everyone, plus the standards below.

  • Coaches on Dardsh are engaged and managed by the team: your profile, intro video, rate and engagement terms are agreed with HR rather than set by you.
  • To be bookable you need an admin-approved intro video and a real profile photo. A pending video change keeps the old video live until it's approved.
  • You keep 75% of each session price until 50 lifetime sessions, 80% from 50, and 85% from 250. The rate is frozen on each booking when it's made.
  • Your session price comes from the pricing formula — your rank, native-speaker status and the language — not from a rate you type.
  • Your rank, and with it your price and visibility, depends on the last 90 days: a rating of at least 4.7, attendance of at least 97%, cancellations under 3%, and late starts under 5%.
  • Be in the room by the start. If you join more than 5 minutes in, you aren't paid for the session. If the learner made it in within their 10 minutes, it also counts as your no-show: the learner is refunded with a bonus, and it counts towards the penalties above. If the learner was late too, they're refunded and there's no penalty.
  • Cancelling a confirmed session more than 24 hours ahead refunds the learner in full with no penalty. Between 24 hours and 1 hour the learner gets a full refund plus a 25% bonus funded by you, and you get a reliability warning. Inside the last hour — or not joining within 5 minutes of the start — counts as your no-show: full refund plus the bonus, and a penalty step.
  • Earnings post as pending and become withdrawable after a short hold. Withdrawals require completed identity verification.
