The Story of Pizza

Pizza is one of the most famous foods in the world. People eat it in many countries. But where did it start?

Pizza comes from Italy. The city of Naples is very important in its history. Long ago, poor people there ate flat bread with tomatoes, cheese, and oil. It was cheap and tasty.

In 1889, a cook made a special pizza for the Italian queen. Her name was Margherita. The pizza had red tomatoes, white cheese, and green basil. These are the colors of the Italian flag. Today, we still call it "Margherita pizza."

Later, Italian people moved to America. They opened pizza shops there. Now you can find pizza everywhere. People will eat it for many more years!
